Assistant Coach, Cross Country & Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field

Reporting to the Head Coach of Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field, the Assistant Coach will be primarily responsible for all aspects of the competitive NCAA Division III cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field programs. In this role, supporting and assisting the teams in all areas are key to developing competitive and successful programs in support of the College’s scholar-athlete approach to collegiate athletics. This position is full-time, benefits eligible for 10 months each year.

The Assistant Coach will also be responsible for secondary administrative duties which could include game day management, equipment room oversight, or other administrative duties as assigned by the Athletic Director. 

This position functions as the substitute Head Coach when the Head Coach is unavailable. As such, the role requires that the Assistant Coach be able to cover all coaching duties normally tasked to the Head Coach for short periods of time.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  

Assisting with sport skill instruction, motivation, and conduct of practice sessions 

Assisting with meet plan development

Assisting with meet day execution, management, instruction, and evaluation

Recruiting scholar-athletes to 91³ÉÈ˶¶ÒôÈë¿Ú.  Working with Head Coach and 91³ÉÈ˶¶ÒôÈë¿Ú Office on identifying prospective scholar-athletes.

Demonstrating a sincere interest in social, emotional, academic development, professional and personal development, as well as the athletic welfare of scholar-athletes.

Exhibiting leadership and professional behavior in dealing with scholar-athletes.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Some lifting, carrying equipment, and walking are required. Some night and weekend hours required.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS OF THE JOB DUTIES: 

Ability to stand for long periods of time.  Ability to work outside of a variety of weather conditions. 

REQUIRED TRAINING AND BACKGROUND CHECKS: 

Must become van certified upon hiring.

As a condition of employment, the assistant coach will obtain and maintain background checks as required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (ACT 153 clearances).

USATF and/or USTFCCCA Certification in appropriate event groups preferred.

CPR/AED/First Aid certification is preferred.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required.  Master’s Degree is preferred.

Candidates will have 1-3 years of coaching experience, and collegiate competing experience is preferred. Candidates need to demonstrate exceptional communication skills as well as the ability to balance multiple projects at the same time. Must have technical and tactical knowledge of cross country and/or track and field.

The ideal candidate will also have experience in leadership roles or as an interim Head Coach.
